New PVC Units to Be Put into Operation Intensively in 2020
China’s planned newly added capacity will be intensive in 2020, and the capacity of ethylene-based units will increase sharply. However, the increase in demand is predicted to be small, and the calcium carbide supply will be tight. Thus, the operating rate of PVC industry is predicted to drop, which will restrain the sharp increase in PVC output. Besides, with the cancellation of China’s anti-dumping policies, the supply of imported resources is predicted to increase to some extent.

As the commissioning dates are delayed in 2018 and 2019 for various reasons, there will be intensive PVC capacity released in 2020. According to statistics, the estimated capacity release in 2020 will be 3,640kt/a (including 150kt/a PVC paste capacity). Considering that the commissioning of some units may be delayed, and some replacement capacity will have limited influence on the total, it is estimated that the actual increase will still be around 2,300kt/a, up 9% Y-O-Y.
