Sinopec Tianjin Receives China’s First Q-Max Cargo as 100th Delivery in 2020
China’s state-owned oil company Sinopec marked a milestone on November 16, 2020 to receive the world’s largest LNG cargo by Q-Max carrier Al Mafyar to its 6 Mtpa Tianjin LNG receiving terminal chartered by Qatargas, and it was also counted as the 100th received cargo at the terminal in 2020.
Sinopec said the Q-Max unloading tested the terminal’s navigability and docking technology and also shows that the unloading and storage capabilities have reached a new level. Sinopec Tianjin was the fastest 200 cargo receiving time record in China from its test running in February 2018 to July 5, 2020, and the terminal imported over 13.25 million tons in total in the 880 days, and by the end of November, the record has been expanded to 17.34 million tons.
On April 5, 2020, Sinopec started the construction of five 220,000-cbm LNG storage tanks as part of the second expansion phase of the Tianjin terminal. The expansion also includes the second LNG carrier berth. Once finished at the end of 2023, the terminal’s receiving capacity will reach 10 Mtpa.
