PipeChina Wen-23 UGS Enters Input Season from Feb 22
According to sources, PipeChina Wen-23 underground natural gas storage facility had stopped withdrawal procedure for this winter heating season on Feb 8, and it started to inject natural gas by its four sets of compressors from Feb 22, 2021 and currently ran at 6 mcm/d low-speed pick-up stage.
Wen-23 is one of the largest strategic natural gas storage facilities in China with the designed total capacity at 8.43 bcm and designed working capacity at 3.27 bcm. The past full input/output season started injection on Feb 1, 2020 and ended injection on Oct 23, 2020, started withdrawal on Nov 22, 2020 and ended withdrawal on Feb 8, 2021. This is the first full input and output season since the UGS ran into service in 2019, and the accumulative injection and withdrawal reached 5.93 bcm and 1.29bcm respectively. Especially, in the past severe cold spells in Dec and Jan, Wen-23 contributed over 1.13 bcm additional natural gas supply to North China at a max output capacity at 18.43 mcm/d, helping North China enjoy a stable natural gas supply during the historical cold weather in decades.
