2021 Jan-Apr China Ethanol Imports Fluctuate Upward
In recent years, China’s ethanol import volume fluctuated greatly. In 2021, the net import volume of ethanol fluctuated upward, and that in April notched a record high in recent years. From January to April 2021, China’s ethanol net import volume reached 383.1kt, up 338.2kt Y-O-Y.

In H1, 2020, the ethanol supply in the international market was limited due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the demand for ethanol from the sanitation industry improved. Then, affected by the supply and transport recovery abroad and price rises in the domestic market, the export arbitrage window was closed, and China’s ethanol export volume showed a downtrend in the second half of 2020. Overall, China exported ethanol of 293.7kt in 2020, and the net export volume was 238.7kt.
