Calcium Carbide-based PVC Unit: Reduced Operating Rate for Electricity Limitation
Preface: Since July 7, the severe restriction on electricity in Inner Mongolia has affected calcium carbide production continuously, leaving deficient supply of calcium carbide. More and more calcium carbide-based PVC units ran at reduced operating rates because of supply crunch of feedstock. The effect of electricity restriction on calcium carbide-based PVC production is further analyzed.
On July 13, overall calcium carbide output was relatively low because of abnormal production in Inner Mongolia and Ningxia due to the electricity restriction. Calcium carbide output decreased by above 10kt in some days and decreased by above 60kt from July 7 to July 13. On July 14, calcium carbide-based PVC producers have to curtail operating rates while meeting difficulties to get feedstock, so the output loss declines further.
