Thailand’s Rubber Output Reduction Program to Start in Sep 2018

According to SCI, the Thai Rubber Association recently said that it would reduce the annual NR supply by 50kt by decreasing the planting area. Before this, the Thai Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak pointed out that the Ministry of Agriculture should try to reduce the rubber planting area in Thailand by 200,000 Lai every year in the next five years.
The Thai Rubber Association declared that in the five-year rubber planting area reduction plan, the planting area will be reduced by 200,000 Lai every year(about 32,000 hectares), and the total reduced planting area will be 1 million Lai (160,000 hectares) in five years. This plan will start in September 2018, which means that the annual supply of NR will be lowered by 40-50kt.
Officials from the association say that the rubber farmers who voluntarily participate in the plan and replant other crops would receive a compensation of THB 20,000 (about $601.14) per Lai.
