Construction of Northeast Sichuan Gas Storage Began

Recently, the construction of Northeast Sichuan Gas Storage began in Cangxi County, Guangyuan City, Sichuan Province. This is the first large-scale gas storage in the Sichuan Gas Storage Construction Planning to start construction. Sichuan plans to build a gas storage and peak shaving system by 2025, including multiple underground gas storages and LNG tanks.

The Northeast Sichuan Gas Storage is invested by Sichuan Energy Investment Group Natural Gas Investment Company with a total investment volume of RMB 670 mn. The Phase I of the storage includes several LNG tanks with a total volume of 10 thousand cbm (which can be gasified into 6 mn cbm gas) and matched facilities. The total gas storage capacity of the storage will be 24 mn cbm, becoming an important part of the storage and peak shaving centre in Southwest China.

Sichuan has a lot of depleted natural gas reserves. If all these depleted reserves are built into underground storages, with a total working capacity of over 5 bcm. In fact, the total working capacity may even be increased to 15 bcm in the future. Sichuan also has abundant salt mines, and many salt-caver gas storages could be built in this province.
