Global Butadiene Capacity Analysis

In the past five years, global butadiene capacity remained in an uptrend overall. By 2019, global butadiene capacity was around 15,924kt/a, up 2.97% Y-O-Y. Within this year, newly added butadiene capacity was mainly concentrated on Asia. The newly added or expanded butadiene units in China, South Korea and Malaysia went into production, replenishing the whole capacity to some extent. In the coming days, global butadiene capacity will still remain in an uptrend, especially in Asia. The newly added butadiene capacity in other regions will be relatively limited.

As seen from global butadiene capacity layout, most of butadiene capacity focus on Asia, followed by Europe and North America. The butadiene capacity in the three regions accounted for 94% of the global. Therein, in Asia, China’s butadiene capacity accounted for the largest. And almost half of butadiene capacity was distributed in China, followed by South Korea, Japan, Taiwan Province, etc. For the time being, the butadiene capacity in Europe and North America was relatively stable, and no new butadiene unit was heard to go into production. The butadiene capacity sees constant increases in Asia, especially in China. There will be many new butadiene units going into production in China, and the market share will be enlarged in the coming days.
