DMTO Project at Tianjin Bohai Chemical Made Progress

According to sources, Tianjin Bohai Chemical Industry Group has started the first hoisting for the reactor, one of the cores of the DMTO project.

DMTO is a patented proprietary technology of Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics (DICP) and is a new generation of methanol-based low-carbon olefins, using methanol and / or dimethyl ether as raw materials to produce low-carbon olefins, such as ethylene and propylene, by catalytic conversion.

The DMTO unit at Tianjin Bohai Chemical Industry Group is a 1,800kt/a MTO unit designed by Sinopec Luoyang Engineering. Therein, it is the most difficult for the company to construct the reactor and the regenerator, and the construction for these two units needs extremely high construction accuracy

DMTO is a kind of technology that uses ethylene or natural gas instead of petroleum as the feedstock to produce ethylene and propylene. Moreover, ethylene and propylene are the most important chemical products in the world, and both of them have long relied on petroleum as the feedstock. The DMTO technology, as its feedstock is no longer solely dependent on petroleum resources, the products of ethylene and propylene are more competitive than those used petroleum as the feedstock. The successful development of DMTO industrial technology is of great significance to reduce China’s crude oil import dependence and open up the new avenues for China’s olefin industry development. The development and application of DMTO technology are of great significance both economically and strategically for China’s new coal chemical industry development and the realization of the “petroleum substitution” energy strategy.
