Methanol Capacity to Increase by 1,000kt/a in 2020

The feedstock of methanol included coal, natural gas and coke-oven gas, and the main capacity concentrated in coal and natural gas. In 2019, it was expected that the total capacity of methanol exceeded 88,000kt/a, up 4% Y-O-Y, but the pace of capacity growth slowed down. From 2000, the demand expanded quickly supported by the high-speed development of economy. Before 2015, China’s methanol capacity maintained the average growth of around 25%.

In 2020, China’s methanol capacity expanded continuously. According to the incomplete statistics, the newly added methanol capacity is above 10,000kt/a (including the integrated units).
