Qixiang Tengda’s 200kt/a NBL Project Advancing at Full Speed
On August 31, Zibo Qixiang Tengda Chemical announced that it will invest in the construction of 200kt/a nitrile latex (NBL) project. On the morning of September 15, the launch ceremony of Qixiang Tengda’s 200kt/a NBL for medical material project was held in Qixiang Tengda New Materials Industrial Park.
Carboxylic NBL is an anionic polymer emulsion. The latex has relatively uniform molecular weight and particle size distribution, is resistant to oil, solvent, acid and alkali, can be cross-linked with sulfur and metal oxides, and has better stability than natural latex. NBL is the main feedstock for nitrile gloves, 90% of which are used in medical gloves, especially after the outbreak of COVID-19, the market demand has further increased.
The main feedstock for this project, butadiene and acrylonitrile, are produced by Qixiang Tengda and the Joint Venture between China Tianchen Engineering and Qixiang Tengda, respectively. NBL products can be directly sold to surrounding enterprises, such as Shandong Intco Medical and Bluesail Medical, which greatly saves transportation costs.
The project has a total investment of RMB 680 million, covers an area of 210 mu, and has a total construction area of more than 10,000 square meters. A total of two 100kt/a NBL production lines will be built, and the control room, analysis building, sewage treatment station, warehouse and other public utilities will be constructed. The project has broken ground on August 15, 2020, and is expected to be fully completed and put into production before December 15. After that, it can achieve an annual operating income of RMB 1.56 billion, profits and taxes of RMB 236 million.
