Gazprom Started Power of Siberia II Feasibility Study
According to Gazprom, the company has put Power of Siberia II into the feasibility study and the evaluation and design work. The new main pipeline directly toward China’s North China via Mongolia was known as China-Russia West Pipeline (CRWP) was designed with maximum capacity at 50 bcma, and the preparation has been mobilized since the commissioning of the CREP since last December. Gazprom estimated the 2,200 kilometer pipeline will be put into run by 2030 at the earliest.
In May 2014, Gazprom and China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) signed a 30-year sales and purchase agreement to transport gas from the Irkutsk and Yakutia gas production centers to consumers in Russia’s Far East and China via the Power of Siberia gas pipeline with a designed capacity at 38 bcma. In September 2019, Russia President Putin visited Mongolia, and the Russian Ministry of Energy and Gazprom were instructed to set up a working group to prepare a feasibility study of a gas pipeline via Mongolia instead of the previously speculated Altay route. Then, CRWP was reported to make a path through Mongolia with higher possibilities. On December 2, 2019, China Russia East Pipeline (CREP) was put into operation, and the preliminary work for CRWP was brought onto the table officially.
As the largest gas supplier in Europe, Gazprom is aimed at maintaining and strengthening its leadership position in the European market, as well as scaling up its presence in Asia-Pacific and across the globe. Currently, piped gas and LNG from Gazprom is being supplied to the Asia-Pacific region and elsewhere.
