Shenergy Inks 15-Year LNG Deal with UK’s Centrica
China’s Shenergy Group, one of the top 10 city gas companies of China who takes charge in China’s second-largest city Shanghai, announced to establish long-term cooperation with UK’s Centrica PLC to import 500,000 metric tons of LNG per annum from 2024 for 15 years.
As the controller of Shanghai’s Yangshan LNG terminal and Wuhaogou LNG terminal, Shenergy has shown great interest in sourcing LNG cargoes independently and lucratively. Since the commissioning of Yangshan’s new secondary regas facility in 2019 and two new LNG storage tanks in 2020, Shenergy is allegedly planning the third phase of its LNG receiving landscape, the third expansion at Yangshan terminal or to build a brand new terminal right beside Yangshan terminal’s Zhongxi-Mentang island so-called as “Yangshan II” terminal. The new long-term contract with Centrica is believed to be matched with this new project so to further expand the natural gas supply security of Shanghai city.
