China Edible & Industrial Ethanol Output Improved in September
In 2020, China’s ethanol prices trended up greatly, supporting the profit improvement, and ethanol producers showed higher production enthusiasm from last year. In September 2020, China’s edible and industrial ethanol output rose to 480.9kt, up 14.50% M-O-M. From January to September, China’s total output of edible and industrial ethanol was 4,540.9kt. The output of fuel ethanol was 205.7kt, down 19.65% M-O-M.

In September 2020, the ethanol output in Northeast China (Jilin and Heilongjiang) reached 199.2kt, accounting for 41.42% of the total and ranking first. In Jilin, ethanol units completed maintenance in August and maintained normal production in September. In terms of the category, the corn-based ethanol output reached 357.7kt, accounting for 74.37% of the total and ranking first. The feedstock corn and ethanol prices both mounted up, and ethanol producers showed higher production enthusiasm with the passable profit. The imported cassava slice consumed, exerting an impact on the production, so the output of cassava-based ethanol was only 101.9kt. The molasses-based ethanol output was below 10kt, and the new crushing season did not start yet. The profit at synthetic ethanol plants ranked first, and the monthly output was 14.3kt, and some units’ operating rates were low due to tight supply.
