Guangdong’s Green Pearl Project to Build 50 LNG Vessels
On March 11, 2021, Guangdong Province Navigation Group (GNG)’s wholly-owned GNG Ocean Shipping signed Design-Build Contract (DBC) with China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) GUMECO and CSSC Guangxi Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering to design and build 25 2,000-ton and 25 3,000-ton single LNG powered bulk carriers for the clean-fuel Pearl River transportation, marking the initiative of Green Pearl Project.
It is alleged that those 50 new LNG-fueled bulk carriers are the first batch of GNG in its clean fuel fleet planning, and will be delivered before March 2022. GNG also plans to further purchase more LNG-fueled vessels to reach 400 in the future.
GNG also signed the LNG filling service agreement with China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC)on the same day to provide CNOOC’s LNG bunkering service to those 50 ships.
