Traditional Off Season Curbs Methanol Price Rebound
China’s methanol prices notched a yearly high in mid-May. Afterwards, the market reversed its rising streak and fluctuated downwards for about one month. With the traditional off season coming, SCI reckons that China’s methanol price rebound may be limited in the near term.

In terms of price, China’s mainstream methanol markets, such as Inner Mongolia, Shandong and Taicang, all saw price pullbacks after local prices reaching a yearly high in mid-May. For example, the methanol prices in Inner Mongolia hit RMB 2,390/mt in mid-May and then fell to around RMB 1,925/mt in the second week of June, down by 20% within one month. In Taicang, the methanol prices closed at RMB 2,550/mt on June 11, down 11.3% from the prices in mid-May.
