Jan-Nov 2021 China Natural Rubber Import
In November 2021, China imported 543.7kt of natural rubber (including NR latex and mixed rubber), up 30.09% M-O-M and down 6.04% Y-O-Y.

From January to November, China imported 4,865.2kt of natural rubber (including NR latex and mixed rubber), down 8.44% from the same period last year.

From January to November 2021, China’s mixed rubber import volume dropped by over 15% Y-O-Y, mainly as the enthusiasm about importing mixed rubber weakened significantly. The import volume of RSS increased the most mainly due to its price decrease.

As seen from the charts above, from January to November 2021, the proportion of China’s Vietnam-origin natural rubber dropped by 6% Y-O-Y; that of Indonesia-origin natural rubber increased by 4% Y-O-Y; that of imports from other origins was largely stable, overall. In the first 9 months of 2021, the weather and COVID-19 pandemic caused unsmooth exports in Vietnam. Afterwards, with the arrival of peak production season, the overall supply and export there recovered. As for Indonesia, since last year, due to the slow recovery of the European and American markets, the trade flow of Indonesia-origin natural rubber has changed, and the proportion of China’s Indonesia-origin natural rubber increased. It was learned that the unsmooth output release contributed to Indonesia's natural rubber prices keeping high in 2021, and the European and American markets were more enthusiastic about importing Thailand’s standard rubber due to rising import costs.

In 2021, China’s mixed rubber import volume declined significantly. From January to November 2021, China’s mixed rubber import volume totaled 2,678.8kt. Among mixed rubber import origins, many trade partners saw a large Y-O-Y decrease. The import volume of Thailand-origin mixed rubber took the largest market share in the first half of 2021, but after July when the Vietnam mixed rubber output increased, the proportion of Vietnam-origin mixed rubber ranked first of China’s total import volume.
