Jun BD Import Volume Rises MoM & Export Volume Remains Low

Introduction: According to GACC, in June, the import volume increased MoM. Major import origins were South Korea, Iran, and others. The export volume remained low. In July, the import volume may decrease somewhat, while the export volume is likely to see limited growth.

In June, the import volume increased MoM, with total import volume around 35,000mt.

According to GACC, in June, the butadiene import volume rose MoM, while the average import price increased MoM. In June 2025, China imported 35,352.54mt of butadiene, up 19.4% MoM and 28.03% YoY. Arrivals of both deep-sea and off-shore resources increased. The June import average price was RMB 1,174.34/mt, up 5.65% MoM. As tariffs eased in mid-May, China’s butadiene prices rose rapidly, so the negotiable price in the Asian market increased accordingly.

As seen from the import origins, imports came from South Korea, Iran, Germany, Thailand, etc. South Korea ranked first. Imports from South Korea were about 12,039.61mt, down 24.69% MoM but up 20.16% YoY. They accounted for about 34% of total imports. Iran came second. Imports from there were about 11,209.38mt, accounting for about 32% of total imports.

In June, the butadiene export volume dropped MoM.

In June 2025, the export volume of butadiene was 13mt, down 99.76% MoM and 99.78% YoY. Downstream demand overseas remained limited. Furthermore, with rising China’s butadiene prices, there were no export arbitrage opportunities. Transactions were scarce. From January to June 2025, cumulative exports totaled about 15,227.45mt, down 80.38% YoY.

As seen from the export destination, Turkey was China's only export destination in June. About 13mt of butadiene were exported to Turkey. In June, the delivery place for export was Sichuan.

July China butadiene import and export outlook: For July, China’s butadiene import volume may decrease MoM. The export volume is likely to remain low. For imports, deep-sea cargo arrivals will probably decrease in July. Some off-shore cargoes were originally planned to arrive in late July. Affected by the weather, their arrivals may be delayed. Overall, the import volume in July may decrease significantly. For exports, South Korea and Taiwan of China see relatively limited downstream demand, so their buying interest in China’s butadiene resources will probably be low. Additionally, China’s butadiene supply will possibly be tight, restricting the butadiene export volume.
