Aug 2025 PE Unit Maintenance Schedule
Introduction: According to SCI, China’s PE output in July 2025 reached 2,629.8kt, up 135.5kt or 5.43% MoM and 19.68% YoY. The estimated output loss due to unit maintenance in August 2025 is expected to be 359.2kt, a decrease of 93.1kt from July 2025. Coupled with the output release from PetroChina Jilin Petrochemical’s new HDPE unit, China’s domestic PE output is anticipated to increase in August 2025.
According to SCI, China’s PE output in July 2025 reached 2,629.8kt, up 135.5kt or 5.43% MoM up 19.68% YoY. The domestic output loss due to PE unit maintenance decreased by 27.4kt MoM. Additionally, there was one more operational day in the month compared to June. Consequently, domestic PE output increased. In terms of operating rates, the PE industry operating rate in July was 76.37%, an increase of 1.64 percentage points from June. This was mainly due to reduced maintenance of domestic PE units, leading to an overall improvement in operating rates.
From a regional perspective, PE output increased across all major regions except Central China, which saw a slight decrease of 9.8kt. East China and North China recorded the largest output increases, rising by 63.7kt and 44.1kt, respectively. This was followed by South China and Northeast China, where PE output increased by 15.7kt and 12.2kt, respectively. Northwest China and Southwest China saw relatively smaller increases of 8.8kt and 1.0kt, respectively. The output growth was primarily attributed to reduced PE unit maintenance within these regions and the presence of one more operational day in the month.
China PE Unit Maintenance Plan
The number of domestic PE units undergoing maintenance in August 2025 is expected to be lower than in July. The estimated output loss due to maintenance is 359.2kt, down 93.1kt MoM. Out of the total, LLDPE, LDPE and HDPE may take up 116.9kt, 54.4kt and 187.9kt, respectively. Furthermore, with the output release from PetroChina Jilin Petrochemical’s new HDPE unit, China’s domestic PE output is anticipated to increase in August 2025.
