The Chinese School Dubai is the first full-time overseas Chinese-curriculum school established by China. It is a soul-casting project and a livelihood project, undertaking the important task of nurturing the souls of overseas Chinese students and providing quality basic education for the children of overseas Chinese citizens. It is also a win-win project and a leading project, with the sacred mission of deepening the cultural construction of "One Belt, One Road" and enhancing China's influence and voice in the arena of international education. In order to provide more Chinese learning resources and opportunities for Chinese children in Dubai and local children who love Chinese language, the Chinese School Dubai has developed and implemented a series of programmes to teach Chinese as a foreign language and is playing a leading role in the field of Chinese language education.
周六的早晨,十月份的天气已微微转凉,轻风拂面,暖阳裹身,好不舒适。迪拜中国学校一周一次的对外汉语教学如常进行,早上九点,校长和老师们就已在校门口准备就绪,孩子们踏着轻快的步伐走进校园,迈入教室。
On Saturday morning, the weather had turned slightly cooler, with a light breeze and warm sunshine. The weekly Chinese-as-a-foreign-language course was scheduled as usual. At 9 am, the principals and teachers were ready at the entrance of the school and the children walked into the classrooms at a brisk pace.
不过,今天除了孩子和老师们,还有一群特殊的嘉宾来到学校。他们就是阿联酋文教协会的会员们以及部分当地公立学校的中文老师。为了提升阿联酋华人教学机构中文教师的教学水平,2022年10月8日,迪拜中国学校协同阿联酋文教协会举办阿联酋中文教师母语教学交流研讨会,搭建互学共享平台,探讨海外中文教育良策,提升海外中文教育质量。
However, in addition to the children and teachers, a group of special guests came to the school today. They were the members of the UAE Cultural and Educational Association. In order to improve the teaching standards of Chinese teachers in Chinese teaching institutions of the UAE, on 8 October 2022, Chinese School Dubai, in collaboration with the UAE Cultural and Educational Association, organized a teaching and learning seminar. It intended to build a platform for mutual learning and sharing, to discuss good practices in overseas Chinese education, and to improve the quality of overseas Chinese education.

在校长们的带领下,会员们参观了学校。教室、实验室、图书馆、文化长廊……每到一处,来宾们都啧啧称赞,他们感叹的不仅是校园的干净整洁,还有处处彰显的中国文化底蕴。
Guided by the principals, the members were given a tour of the school. They visited the classrooms, laboratories, library and cultural corridors. The members were impressed not only by the cleanliness of the campus, but also by the Chinese cultural heritage that was evident everywhere.

The Foundation class:
Learning Pinyin in light spirits
复习了单韵母和四声调后,老师带领孩子们继续走进拼音王国认识声母家族,运用情境图、手指操、编儿歌以及讲故事的方法让学生在轻松有趣的氛围中掌握声母b p m f的发音,还通过小老师带读、两人合作练读等形式加强巩固,有效提高了学生的学习参与度。
After reviewing the single rhymes and the four tones, the teacher led the children into the kingdom of Pinyin to learn about the sound family. The teacher used contextual pictures, finger plays, children's songs and story-telling to help the students master the sound /b/,/p/,/m/,/f/ in a fun and relaxed atmosphere.
The Beginners' class:

老师从二十四节气歌的视频引入,激发学生的学习兴趣,接着出示带有拼音的二十四节气歌,让学生学习朗诵,理解意思。玩一玩节气是本节课的亮点:“今天是寒露,不能生气哦!立夏更好玩,可以玩斗蛋!二十四节气,一个一个记!”玩的是斗蛋,识的是节气;读的是绘本,悟的是智慧。
The teacher introduced a video of the 24 solar terms song to stimulate students' interest in learning, which was followed by the presentation of the 24 solar terms song with pinyin for students to recite and understand. The highlight of the lesson was chanting the solar terms: "Today is the cold dew, and don't be angry! Summer is even more fun, you can play with eggs! Remember the 24 solar terms one by one!" We played with the eggs and learned about the solar terms; we read the picture book and understood the wisdom.
The Intermediate class:

老师从西湖十景入手,让学生在欣赏、圈画、朗读中识字,既领略了江南的美丽风光,又在多种形式的朗读中锻炼了识字能力。在欣赏了西湖十景之后,老师又设计了读故事、编故事、记诗词、练书写等活动,让学生始终沉浸在语言文字的学习中,并获得了中华传统文化的熏陶与感染。
Starting from the ten scenes of West Lake, the teacher guided the students to recognize characters by circling out and reading aloud, so that they could appreciate the beautiful scenery of Jiangnan and practise their literacy skills in various forms of recitation. After enjoying the ten scenes of West Lake, the teacher designed activities such as reading stories, making up stories, memorising poems and practising writing, so that students were always immersed in the language learning and writing, and were provided with edification of traditional Chinese culture.
The advanced class:

课前,老师布置学生围绕“What is it?How to do?Why?”三个问题搜集资料,带着对重阳节的初步了解走进课堂,人人展示预学成果,在分享中建构起对重阳节日文化的系统认知。在此基础上,开启节日古诗《九月九日忆山东兄弟》的学习,教师带领学生在朗读中感受古诗的节奏美,引导学生借助注释理解诗意,通过想象体悟诗情,进而再联系生活实际,在真实语境运用中领略千古名句“独在异乡为异客、每逢佳节倍思亲”中所蕴含的朴素而深沉的情感力量。最后在深情朗诵与认真书写中将整首诗牢记于心,展露笔端,形成一幅幅书法作品,上墙展示。一个佳节,一首古诗,一幅作品,中华传统文化因子在课堂环环渗透,处处体现。
Before the lesson, the teacher assigned students to collect information with three questions "What is it? How to do it? Why doing this?” On this basis, the class was introduced to the ancient poem "Missing my brothers in Shandong on the 9th of September". The teacher led the students to feel the beauty of the poem rhythm by reading it aloud, guiding them to understand the meaning of the poem with the help of the commentary. Then students appreciated the mood of the poem through imagination, and related it to real-life situations. In this way, the profound emotional energy of the famous line "I am a stranger in a foreign country, but I miss my relatives at home every time the festival comes" was evident itself. Finally, the poem was recited with deep emotion and carefully written down by students to form a piece of calligraphy work for display on the wall. A festive season, an ancient poem, a piece of artwork. The traditional Chinese cultural factor permeated every corner of the classroom.

Yin Liping: Accurate positioning for mutual benefit and development
迪拜中国学校尹立平校长首先就为何开设对外汉语教学课程、为何举办中学教学研讨活动以及迪拜中国学校和文教协会的关系做了简介。尹校长说,开设对外汉语教学课程既是学校的使命,也是对家长需求和总领馆要求的积极回应。本次研讨活动,是迪拜中国学校和阿联酋文教协会之间的一次合作,体现了学校与在阿各中文培训机构之间互学互促、互利共赢的良好合作关系。接着,尹校长还结合学校宣传片,就学校使命、办学目标、办学模式、管理团队、重点工作推进等进行了详细介绍,并期待未来能与阿联酋文教协会继续合作,共同为探索推广海外中文教育做出应有的贡献。
Principal Yin Liping of the Chinese School Dubai first gave a brief introduction on why the Chinese as a Foreign Language Programme was established, why the secondary school teaching seminar was held and the relationship between the Chinese School Dubai and the training institutions. Principal Yin said that offering weekend Chinese courses was not only the realization of the school mission, but also the active response to parent’s needs and the consulate’s requirement. This seminar was a cooperation between the Chinese School Dubai and the UAE Cultural and Educational Association, reflecting the good cooperation between the school and the Chinese training institutions in the UAE for mutual learning and promotion, and for mutual benefit. Mr. Yin also gave a detailed introduction of the school's mission, objectives, mode of operation, management team and key tasks by playing the school's promotional video. He looked forward to continuing cooperation with the UAE Cultural and Educational Association in the future, and making joint efforts to explore the promotion of Chinese language education overseas.

周建芬是迪拜中国学校的副校长,她从迪拜中国学校的办学理念“一切为了学生”出发,围绕“个性、多元、自由、和谐”四个关键词,从学校对外汉语教学的备课、上课、作业、评价各环节入手,详细介绍了教师团队在实施差异化教学方面的具体做法,不仅让与会人员领略到了迪拜中国学校教师的智慧,更感受到了老师们浓浓的教育情怀!
Zhou Jianfen, Vice Principal of Chinese School Dubai, introduced the specific practices of the teachers' team in implementing differentiated teaching, starting from the philosophy of Chinese School Dubai "All for Students" and focusing on the four key words "Individuality, Diversity, Freedom and Harmony". She also mentioned the preparation of lessons and classes, and the assignments and evaluation of the weekend Chinese course. Not only did the participants enjoyed the wisdom of the teachers at the Chinese School Dubai, but they also felt the strong commitment of the teachers.

迪拜中国学校董琳瑾老师向参会人员汇报了自己在培养海外中国学生中文学习兴趣方面的三大路径:常规教材内容游戏化,学科学习活动项目化,中华文明符号生活化。有趣的游戏形式,丰富的学习载体,精彩的学科活动,董老师的分享赢得了与会老师的一片赞叹。
Ms. Dong Linjin from Chinese School Dubai reported on her three main approaches to cultivating the interest of overseas Chinese students in Chinese language learning: gamification of regular textbook content, project-based subject learning activities, and vivid presentation of Chinese civilization symbols. Ms. Dong's sharing of interesting games, rich learning methods and exciting subject activities won the admiration of the participating teachers.

Mr. Cao Yonghong, from Thinking First Learning Center, talked about the difficulties and countermeasures on the thorny problems encountered by training institutions in promoting Chinese language teaching with the topic of "Teaching Seminar and Tutorial Analysis of Chinese Language Classes". The research spirit they showed in the comparative analysis of teaching materials and tutorials was particularly worth learning from.
长城书院殷霄君:基于对比 积极探索差异化教学

殷霄君老师来自长城书院,她对海外华裔中文教学与本土语文教学进行了比较和思考,并针对这些不同,向大家介绍了长城书院在中文教育如何体现人文性、互动性、趣味性、系统性方面所做的努力。
Ms Yin Xiaojun, from the Great Wall Institute, compared and reflected on domestic and international Chinese language teaching. In response to these differences, she introduced to the audience the efforts made by the Great Wall Institute in making Chinese language education humanistic, interactive, interesting and systematic.

Ms. Hu Ying said that as teachers, we had the mission to forge souls, and that education is a long-term project. Ms. Hu Ying looked forward to the further cooperation between the Chinese School Dubai and the UAE Cultural and Educational Association, with an aim to learn from each other, share resources and make progress together. She also looked forward to the Chinese School Dubai offering courses on Chinese history and Chinese geography as a part of weekend courses, which provided more possibilities to strengthen the national identity and pride of overseas Chinese students.

唐会长深情回顾了自己三十多年来为海外中文教育所做的努力与探索。他指出,祖国的强大是海外中文教育持续开展、不断发展的根,孩子们有无限的可能,未来的海外中文教育有无限的希望。唐会长说,他相信迪拜中国学校会越办越好,也一定会在海外中文教育探索之路上不断发挥引领作用,并期待未来能与迪拜中国学校一道,共同为海外中文教育的蓬勃发展做出应有的贡献。
President Tang fondly recalled his own efforts and exploration for overseas Chinese language education over the past 30 years. He pointed out that the strength of the motherland was the root of the continuous development of overseas Chinese education, and that there was infinite hope for overseas Chinese education in the future. President Tang said he believed that the Chinese School Dubai would get better and better, and would definitely continue to play a leading role in the exploration of overseas Chinese education. He looked forward to working with the Chinese School Dubai in the future to contribute to the flourishing development of the overseas Chinese education.
中华文脉,源远流长,对外汉语教学,任重道远。正如主持人谭超老师总结的那样:我们是这文脉中细小的支流,虽细小却永不枯竭,因为这一文脉博大精深,几乎是无限的、无条件地如母亲般地在给我们这些细小的支流补充水分,补给养分。所以不论我们作为一支溪流流出去有多远,总是让我们能够汇聚到一起,因为我们有着共同的文化属性,正是这种汇集,会让我们变得更加强大,永不干涸,最终形成湖泊,造就河流,汇聚成海。
The Chinese culture has a long history, and teaching Chinese as a foreign language still has a long way to go. As the moderator, Mr Tan Chao, summed it up: we are tiny tributaries of this cultural lineage, small but never exhausted; because this cultural lineage is vast and profound, it replenishes water and nutrients to us tiny tributaries like a mother, who loves her children infinitely and unconditionally. No matter how far we flow out as a stream, we will always merge together because we share a common cultural attribute; it is this connection that will make us stronger, eventually forming lakes, creating rivers and converging into seas.
