Yesterday,BBC conducted an exclusive interview with Crayfish.io, a strategic partner of CloudTranslation Technology in the UK, to learn how CloudTranslation's medical machine translation engine to help researchers in the fight against the novelcoronavirus disease COVID-19.
Since the COVID-19 outbreak in late January,medical staffs across China have been working around the clock, and various regions have experienced a severe shortage of medical supplies such as masks and medical protective clothing. Since there is a huge demand for medical supplies, materials from overseas sources are particularly important.
The cross-border purchase of medical suppliesis quite special. To purchase qualified products, buyers need to rapidly identify products, collect and translate global standards, compare them with national standards, and translate instruction manuals, etc. Meanwhile, there search and development of vaccines are also racing against time, and this requires efficient communication between researchers in China and other countries and regions, involving translation of a large volume of data such asacademic papers and the latest research results.
Since January 30th, CloudTranslation has granted medical workers and researchers free access to its professional medical translation platform, to help overcome language barriers and improve communication efficiency in vaccine development. Thanks to the introduction of Crayfish.io, a British partner of CloudTranslation, a local company that develops reagents in Cambridge has started to use the CloudTranslation MT system and has so far given positive feedback.
