研讨会概要
Abstract
The human face is a powerful channel for non-verbal communication, transmitting a rich stream of social and emotional signals. It represents one of the principal features for natural interaction. Computational and psychophysical research has identified a wide range of social signals conveyed by the face. However, it still faces challenges to fully uncover and understand social signals from human faces. It is thus essential to develop computational model allowing to perceive these social signals from images and video streams for various applications such as affective computing, social robotics, social interaction, social cognition, and cognitive neuroimaging. This talk discusses how automated facial sensing is revolutionizing our ability to understand these complex cues. We will move beyond basic emotion classification to examine how computational models, particularly through advanced 4D facial sensing, decode nuanced social constructs from dynamic behavior. A key focus will be the unique understanding of social signals enabled by 3D and 4D facial data, which captures subtle facial movements. We will highlight transformative applications across diverse fields, such as enhancing human-computer interaction and intelligent virtual agents (IVAs) by creating more responsive and empathetic systems. The discussion will also address the critical cultural considerations and methodological challenges inherent in this field, from building culturally unbiased models to ensuring ethical deployment. This presentation will ultimately discuss how these data-driven insights are illuminating the foundational elements of human social behavior.
