BMC Biology is calling for submissions to our Collection on Aging microenvironment and disease. This Collection aims to help our understanding about the molecular mechanisms and cellular processes that affect the tissue microenvironment during aging and aging-related diseases, as well as the implications in the development of novel therapeutic interventions to restore the aging microenvironment. 

The role of sports psychiatry in athlete well-being

This Collection aims to showcase research that explores the psychiatric challenges faced by athletes, effective interventions, and the role of mental health professionals in sports. By advancing our understanding of sports psychiatry, this Collection seeks to promote the mental well-being of athletes and enhance their overall performance.   

Genomics of endangered species

BMC Genomics is calling for submissions to our Collection on Genomics of endangered species, a rapidly evolving field that combines molecular biology, genetics, and conservation science to understand the drivers of genetic diversity and evolutionary history of species at risk of extinction. By analyzing the genomes of these species, researchers can identify critical adaptive genetic variation, assess genetic indicators of population health, and inform conservation strategies. This area of study is crucial for developing effective management plans that can help preserve biodiversity and ensure the survival of endangered species in the face of habitat loss, climate change, and other anthropogenic pressures. 

Sleep and mental health

BMC Medicine is calling for submissions to our Collection on sleep research, focusing on the intricate relationship between sleep, mental health, and cognitive function. Sleep is a fundamental biological process that plays a critical role in maintaining overall health and well-being. Understanding the mechanisms underlying sleep regulation—including the influence of circadian rhythms, light exposure, and sleep hygiene—is essential for addressing the growing prevalence of sleep disorders and their associated mental health impacts. This Collection aims to gather innovative research that explores these connections and their implications for clinical practice and public health. 

Diabetes in children and adolescents: characteristics and management

Recent advances in technology, such as continuous glucose monitoring and insulin pumps, have revolutionized diabetes management, allowing for more personalized treatment plans. Additionally, research has highlighted the importance of psychosocial support and education in managing diabetes, emphasizing the need for a holistic approach that addresses both medical and emotional aspects of care. Continued exploration in this field will help identify best practices and innovative solutions to enhance the quality of life for young patients. 

One Health approach: zoonotic disease and microbiome research  

In support of United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 3 (SDG 3, Good Health and Well-Being), BMC Microbiology  launches the collection  One Health approach: zoonotic disease and microbiome research. This collection aims to explore research on emerging and re-emerging zoonotic infections (e.g. pathogenesis, pathogen-host interactions, detection, diagnosis, treatment and control), as well as on microbial communities, in the context of One Health approach. Research without a clear focus on microorganisms, host-microorganism interactions and/or microbiomes, as well as implications for One Health approach, will not be considered.

BMC Medical Ethics is calling for submissions to our Collection on Ethical challenges in nursing practice. This Collection seeks to address the multifaceted ethical considerations that arise within nursing practice, emphasizing the importance of ethical reflection and communication as nurses advocate for their patients' needs and rights.  

Geriatric oncology

BMC Geriatrics is calling for submissions to our Collection on Geriatric oncology. 

As global populations age, cancer increasingly impacts older adults, who often present unique challenges, including multimorbidity, frailty, and disparities in healthcare access. This Collection aims to gather insights into the specific needs of older cancer patients, exploring approaches to geriatric assessment, tailored treatment strategies, and supportive care that take into account the complexities of aging.
