One of the main concerns for many printer customers has always been the page yield. In general, page yields are measured using two different approaches: ISO-standard-based and usage-based. Nevertheless, the yield of remaining pages that is shown is only an estimate, and the number of pages that are printed will differ based on the type of page.
In this article, we will explain the concepts of calculating page yields using Brother inkjet printers as examples.
I
Based on ISO Standard
Stated page yields for genuine Brother ink cartridges are based on the ISO/IEC 24711 testing method and the ISO/IEC 24712 test pattern.
Because of the content of the printed pages as well as other factors, the actual number of printed pages can vary greatly.
The "ISO/IEC 24712 test pattern consists of the test suite of documents displayed in the figure above.

Based on Usage
This approach aims to make the most accurate prediction of page yields. These include:
The page yield of high-density documents (Document A) will be lower than that of the ISO standard.
The page yield for lower-density papers (Document B) will be higher than the ISO standard.
Printing with a single color (Document C) may lead to a lower yield for that color and a greater yield for less often used colors.
