The International Maritime Organization (IMO) will roll out a refreshed logo and visual identity, following a presentation by IMO Secretary-General Arsenio Dominguez to the 34th session of the IMO Assembly (24 November to 3 December).
The updated visual identity honours the Organization's past and signals its readiness to meet the challenges of 21st-century shipping.
Addressing the Assembly on its final day of deliberations (3 December), Secretary-General Dominguez said: "The updated logo and the new visual identity embody our enduring commitment to safe, secure, efficient and environmentally-sound shipping, and to cooperation among Member States to protect people and the planet."
Rooted in the emblem first adopted when the Organization was established as the Inter-Governmental Maritime Consultative Organization more than 77 years ago, the modernized design preserves that heritage while placing the ocean at its core.
Drawing on the United Nations emblem, the design retains the world map framed by olive branches and anchors and now emphasizes the ocean's central role in global affairs.
A new font and colour palette has been selected, including a deeper blue for the logo, not only enhancing clarity and brand recognition, but also making it easier to perceive for people with visual impairments.
The new IMO logo is available in all six official UN languages
