In recent years, some exported vehicles were labeled as "used" but were actually zero-mileage new cars, posing compliance risks. In contrast, retired ride-hailing EVs that have undergone real operational use and have complete data records now gain an advantage—thanks to their "clear identity and compliant processes," they have become high-quality, internationally acceptable export assets.
One OEM has already piloted a model where vehicles are first used in long-term leasing for six months, then exported as "commercial used vehicles"—a model now being studied and replicated by more companies.
2. Cost Advantage + Technological Maturity = Explosive Global Competitiveness
Compared to ICE vehicles, Chinese-made NEVs already have generational advantages in powertrain, intelligent features, and range. Even after 3–5 years of operation, their residual value and user experience still far exceed comparable foreign fuel vehicles.

  • Prices can be half—or even lower—than new models
  • Battery health typically remains above 70%
  • Maintenance systems are improving, with ample spare parts supply
All of this makes "Chinese used EVs" highly attractive in markets across Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Latin America, and Africa.
3. Market Demand Is Awakening: The World Needs Affordable, Reliable EVs
Many developing countries are in the early stages of transportation electrification but cannot afford high-end EVs from Europe or America due to limited purchasing power. Chinese high-value used EVs perfectly fill this gap.
Take Thailand, Indonesia, and Chile as examples—local ride-hailing platforms and mobility-sharing companies have strong demand for low-cost electric vehicles. A BYD or GAC Aion that served on Didi for five years can, after refurbishment, remain in service locally for another three years or more, offering exceptional economics.
