What do Gladys, Ruby and Logan all have in common? Ringing any bells? Probably not. Well, they are all names of storms. We've already had Corrie and Dudley this year and nowit's time for Eunice.

But how do storms get their names? There's quite a logical explanation for naming astorm. It's simply to make people more aware when severe weather is on the way, with theidea being you'll hear the name and you'll know serious wind, rain or snow is coming. That way, people are better placed to keep themselves and their property safe.

但是风暴是如何命名的呢？给风暴命名有很合理的解释。这只是为了让人们更加意识到恶劣的天气即将到来，这样你就会听到这个名字，你就会知道严重的风，雨或雪就要来了。这样，人们就能更好地保护自己和财产的安全。

It's still a relatively new thing. The Met Office started doing it in 2015 along withforecasters in Ireland and then later the Netherlands joined in. A name is given when a storm is expected to cause medium or high impacts, or inweather speak, has the potential to cause an amber or red war.

The Met Office asks the public to suggest possible names and a new list is publishedevery year. The A-Z of names, which runs from early September to late August, flipsbetween male and female. More than 10,000 submissions were made by the UK publiclast year.
