Bureau Veritas has issued new rules covering offshore service vessels and tugs, including offshore construction and support vessels. The new rules set out technical requirements for a wide range of offshore activities: towing, anchor handling, supply, fire-fighting, oil recovery, cable laying, diving support, lifting, heavy lift transportation, standby and rescue. They also include new class notations for pipe laying and accommodation. Experience-based feedback has been incorporated from international cross-industry projects and working groups, such as the SafeTug JIP and IMO groups focused on stability.
The new, user-friendly rules entered into force on July 1st 2017 through a dedicated booklet (NR467-E) as part of the Rules for the Classification of Steel Ships. They represent the culmination of a development plan aimed at addressing the specificities of key offshore operations in Bureau Veritas rules.
