Summer holiday homework assignments are defeating the purpose of the holiday because they are way too difficult, parents of many primary school pupils complain, Guangming Daily reported.
Chinese class assignments for a 2nd-grader now include: "2/3 of a frog=?" and "Feet - shoes and socks + lawn=?" The answers are believed to be 2 proverbs: "Having head but no tail" (meaning to quit doing something halfway) and "having one's feet on the ground" (meaning to have a sensible and practical attitude toward life).
Many believed those ridiculously tricky questions are a result of fierce academic competition.
