A newly released table of standardized Chinese characters includes some words that are uncommon but often used in names, such as "喆" and "堃", Beijing Evening News reported. The table is based on household records collected from 18 provinces and cities.
With this new table, those who previously could not get some characters of their names typed on boarding cards and therefore had to use "?" for a substitute, can now see their full names on the card. Also, the number of people who cannot have their names typed on a card at the bank is expected to decrease.
