[背景知识]
两会，即"全国人民代表大会"(the National People's Congress [NPC])和"中国人民政治协商会议"(the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference [CPPCC])。每年3月份两会先后召开全体会议一次，每5年称为一届。
2014年全国两会(2014 two sessions)即第十二届全国人民代表大会第二次会议(the second session of the 12th NPC)和政协第十二届全国委员会第二次会议(the second session of the 12th National Committee of CPPCC)。
人大会议和政协会议有所不同：人大代表(NPC deputy)审议政府工作报告(report on the work of the government)、计划、预算报告等，之后要通过表决对这些报告作出决议；而政协委员(CPPCC member)仅讨论这些报告，并提出意见和建议，但不表决作出决议。
2、你懂的
“我只能回答成这样了，你懂的。”3月2日下午，政协大会新闻发言人吕新华，最后一刻，针对港媒有关周永康问题的提问，逗发全场笑声。不到5秒钟，“你懂的”瞬间被在场记者通过微信发送到朋友圈，成为发布会的热点词汇。

中国日报（China Daily）将吕新华这句经典的“你懂的”翻译成了I think you understand what I mean。这一神回应在现场被翻成了you know what I mean。
3、简化服务
今年全国两会期间，矿泉水瓶上标注姓名、减少纸张，不分发纪念品，在各个驻地，“节俭”、“务实”成为会议服务关键词。

今年全国两会主打“节俭风”，各驻地都提供简化服务（pared-down service），没有迎接仪式（no welcome ceremony）、没有鲜花礼品（no flowers or gifts），只有简洁的文件袋和会议须知（a small bag of printed materials and meeting agenda），文件传输尽量减少纸张使用（paper use），大部分实现网上办公（online office）。
中共中央政治局2012年12月4日召开会议，审议并一致同意中央政治局关于改进工作作风、密切联系群众的八项规定（an eight-point code to cut bureaucracy and maintain close ties with the people）。规定包括，精简会议活动、改进会风，精简文件简报、改进文风，规范出访活动，改进警卫工作，改进新闻报道，厉行节约，等。
4、政协开幕为昆明恐暴案遇难者“默哀”
3月3日15时，全国政协十二届二次会议在人民大会堂开幕。全体与会人员为在3月1日晚云南昆明火车站发生的严重暴力恐怖事件中遇难的群众默哀。

“默哀”（silent tribute）是对逝者表示悼念的一种方式，“为…默哀”可用pay silent tribute to someone或observe a moment of silence for someone表示。在互联网普及的今天，不少人还会在网上敬献虚拟花圈（virtual wreath）对逝者进行网上悼念（online tribute）。四川汶川地震和青海玉树地震后，国家都设立了全国哀悼日（national mourning day），对遇难者进行悼念。
5、“贿选”零容忍
十二届全国人大二次会议新闻发布会于3月4日上午11时召开，大会新闻发言人傅莹表示，国家将用“零容忍”的态度对待贿选和破坏选举的行为。

全国人大发言人宣称，国家将用“零容忍”的态度对待贿选行为，严厉惩处贿选者。
上面的报道中，electoral fraud就是“贿选”，有时也译作“选举舞弊”，指illegal interference with the process of an election（非法干预选举过程的行为）。
选举的时候，一般都会有一个electoral register/roll（选民登记簿），也可表达为voter roll。有right to vote（选举权）的人都会登记在册。到了election day（选举日），所有的voter（选民）都要在各自所在的electoral district（选区）cast his/her vote（投票）。
