College graduates on average have to print 7 copies of their theses for the thesis defense, and some 20 sheets of A4-sized paper are needed to print a single copy, Legal Evening News reporters found. The country will have 7.27m new university graduates this year and their thesis printing will consume 4,000 tons of paper, which takes more than 70,000 20-year-old trees to make. A paper-based thesis is part of a student's school performance and it's improper to file electronic versions only, according to some colleges.
《法制晚报》记者近日采访发现,毕业生答辩时,人均需要打印7本纸质版论文,一份论文需用约20张A4纸。根据今年毕业生727万人计算,打印毕业论文要用去4000吨纸,相当于消耗7万多棵20年树龄的大树。部分高校表示,纸质版论文是学生在校表现的一种证明,不会只用电子版进行存档。
