Japanese baby milk maker Meiji said Thursday it was suspending sales in China because of rising costs and increased competition, Bloomberg reported.
Meiji's sales have fallen to 1/3 of their peak in 2009, and it didn't rank in the top 10 milk formula brands in the country last year. "The company has found it difficult to make a stable profit in the market," a spokesman said, adding that the company will consider resuming its milk powder business there when the market improves.
