The immersion program is where students will learn other subjects in a different language. What we have done is look at practical subjects and seen how we could teach them in a foreign language, so we look at art, we look at PE, we look at IT and see how it is we can help students to learn but using a different language to their own. It has a fancy name that is content and language integrated learning.

结果, 她的学生提前三年参加了GCSE(General Certificate of Secondary Education),九成以上的学生得到了A或者A*, 比全国平均水平高出很多。
This program and especially the inclusion of Mandarin has seen widespread acclaim through the British Council and HSBC’s National Mandarin Chinese Speaking Competition where students from Bohunt have attained the top 3 places 3 years in a row, with 2 out of the 3 achieving first place.
Furthermore, before Prime Minister David Cameron’s trip to China in 2013, students from the program were invited to 10 Downing Street, the official residence of the Prime Minister, to give him a Mandarin lesson.
Students in the immersion group have a more positive attitude to learning than those outside the immersion group, according to Philip Avery, Director of Learning and Strategy for Bohunt Trust, which runs the school.

“That gap opens up during their first year and it stays all the way through their time with us. There is something about how they perceive themselves as learners, how they perceive learning and how they perceive school that is more positive because they’ve been in an immersion group,” adds he.
“They find it hard to study a subject in another language and that builds resilience, you have to have good listening skills and you are going to have to work collaboratively with others because if you are not too sure what is going on someone else can help you”. However, he adds that the most noticeable benefit is the increase in the students’ confidence.
