根据《不能承受的生命之轻》改变的电影《布拉格之恋》也备受文艺片爱好者追捧。
创作《不能承受的生命之轻》时，昆德拉用的是母语——捷克语。为什么特别强调，因为倔强的老头昆德拉，流亡法国后，有一段时间开始用法语写作，不再用捷克语进行创造。

捷克语是捷克共和国的官方语言（Czech is the official language of the Czech Republic），北京外国语大学捷克语教研室主任王鹏介绍，由于地理、历史等原因，其实斯洛伐克的人也可以听懂捷克语（But people from the Slovak Republic are also able to understand the language for some geographical and historical reasons）。
王鹏老师告诉中国日报记者，之前，北外是全国唯一开设捷克语专业的高校（the Czech language major at BFSU used to be the only one of its kind in China for a period of time），每两年或四年招生一次（recruiting students every two or four years），每次招十几人可见捷克语在中国有多小众（with each time about one dozen students being admitted）。
现在，越来越多的国内学校，如北京第二外国语学院（ Beijing International Studies University）、天津外国语学院（Tianjin Foreign Studies University）等，已经开设或正在筹备捷克语课程（are opening or considering opening courses on the language），捷克语教育在中国的影响力日渐增强（gaining greater popularity and is being embraced by more people in China）。
捷克语，或者说捷克这个国家与新中国的渊源可以追溯到（can be dated back to ）建国初期。1949年，捷克斯洛伐克与中国建立外交关系（established diplomatic ties after the People's Republic of China was founded）。同时，为发展与东欧民主国家之间的友好合作关系，中国政府根据相关文化协定，选派优秀青年分批到东欧国家留学交流。
1950年9月，新中国首批留学生前往东欧各国( Eastern European countries)，部分学生就读于捷克首都布拉格的著名学府。这批青年学成回国后，就成为我国的第一批捷克语专业教师(became the first batch of teachers of Czech language at Chinese universities)。
1954年，中国最早的捷克语专业在北京大学成立(China’s first Czech language major was established at Peking University)，1956年调整到北京俄语学院，1959年北京俄语学院与北京外国语学院合并。
1966年“文化大革命”"
1983年后，捷克语专业恢复正常招生（recruitment resumed）。从上世纪80年代起，北外捷克语专业开始为国内一些需要捷克语人才的单位提供定向的、非学历培训。1991年，北外捷克语专业招收了首批硕士研究生（BFSU started to offer the first batch of postgraduates on Czech language and culture)。
从专业的最初建立到现在，总共约有300人从北外捷克语专业毕业（about 300 students have graduated from the program during the past several decades）。据王鹏老师介绍，北外捷克语专业的毕业生在对捷克语人才有需求的单位那里很受欢迎（graduates were well-received），“不少我们的毕业生进入了外交部、文化部、商务部等部委，以及新华社、中国国际广播电台等媒体。”
然而，捷克语在中国的发展并非一帆风顺（the development of Czech language hasn’t been an easy ride in China）。90年代，随着苏联解体、东欧剧变等国际形势的变化和市场经济大潮的冲击，捷克语专业的发展也受到了一些不利的影响。
好在随着近些年中国和捷克之间的往来日益密切（As the relationship between China and the Czech Republic becomes closer），捷克语教学在中国再次得到重视。北外与捷克查理大学签订了合作协议（BFSU has signed cooperation agreements with Charles University in Prague）。北外捷克语专业的学生在本科期间都有机会到该大学进行一学年的学习（ students from BFSU are supported to study in Czech for an academic year）。
