Recently, a video depicting "a Chinese tour group being robbed in Italy" has garnered attention. A Hongxing News reporter contacted the consular protection and assistance hotline of the Chinese Embassy in Italy to inquire about the incident on Monday.
The staff member said that, after verification, the Italian police had issued a loss report for the tourists in the travel group, and the tourists could use this report for insurance claims in the future.
The loss report is available in both Italian and English and can confirm which documents and valuables were lost, the staff member said. They also encouraged tourists in need of further assistance to proactively contact the consular protection hotline of the Chinese Embassy in Italy, according to Chengdu-based news outlet Hongxing News.
According to a video from Henan-based Dahe Daily, on July 4, a netizen reported that while traveling in a tour group in Italy, their belongings were completely stolen from the bus within just over 20 minutes of having lunch.
The incident occurred on July 3. Despite the incident, the group continued with their planned tour and returned to China on Monday afternoon, according to the report.
A participant in the tour, surnamed Jin, shared that he had signed up for a European tour covering four countries — France, Switzerland, Germany, and Italy — during the summer vacation, with Italy being the final stop. The tour cost over 20,000 yuan ($2,787.58).
On the day of the incident, the group had visited the Leaning Tower of Pisa and, after finishing their visit, arrived at a restaurant located in a particularly remote area for lunch.
"At that time, some members of the group said that how we ended up in such a remote place. Everyone was quite confused. It was extremely hot in Italy, and after a tiring morning, no one wanted to take their luggage or bags off the bus, especially since the bus was parked right at the restaurant entrance and there were surveillance cameras," Jin noted.
The local police took a statement and asked them to "wait for news," said Jin, according to the report.
