Want to tour Hangzhou? Well, walking alongside the West Lake will not be easy as the round circuit is about 16 kilometers long. Hopping on cars means you will miss out on the local scene. So, what’s the solution? How about a bicycle?
如今，杭州这座现代化的城市已拥有完善的公共自行车服务系统；在共享出行经济盛行的当下，用绿色低碳的“小红车”赚足了世界的眼球。
The city is now famous for its Uber-like bike sharing economy.
江南水乡杭州养育着超过900万的常住人口，同时也编织着世界上最大的公用自行车交通网络：截至今年6月底，杭州市已投放84100辆自行车，设立服务网点3574个，单日最多可以承载44万余名乘客骑行。
As home to more than nine million people, the Yangtze delta metropolis is geared up for the world’s biggest bike-sharing public transportation system. By the end of June this year, the city had 3,574 service points and 84,100 bikes. At its peak, the service can serve 448,600 people per day.
杭州的单车租用系统起步于2008年，经过多年成长，已在国际社会上崭露头角，一系列绿色环保奖项拿到手软。更为重要的是，骑自行车兜兜风已成为当地市民不可或缺的生活方式之一。
Since the introduction of cycle-friendly hire scheme in 2008, the city has won several Green City awards from international organizations. Most importantly, taking a bike ride has become an inseparable element of local people’s daily life.

Why is bike-sharing system booming in Hangzhou?
自行车友好型城市：地处沿海平原的杭州天生具有便于骑行的优势，加之多数街道专门增设了非机动车道和配套服务设施，骑自行车出行很容易成为不二之选。
-Bicycle-friendly. Located at the coastal plain, Hangzhou can be called a bicycle-friendly city. Major streets have dedicated bike lanes throughout the city, and bike infrastructures are well equipped to facilitate moving around on two wheels.
便宜快捷：对于大多数市民和游客来说，选乘公用自行车最主要还是因为“小红车”省钱又方便。一小时内免费租用，一小时以上两小时以内只花1元钱，第三小时加收2元，三小时以上每小时加收3元。
-Cheap. For residents and tourists, one main factor of choosing to ride a bike is that it’s cost-efficient and convenient. The ride is free for the first hour; at the second hour, one pays 1 yuan ($0.15) while at the third hour, an additional 2 yuan ($0.30) is charged, and any additional hours cost 3 yuan/hr ($0.44/hr).

最早：为了减少能源消耗、缓解交通压力，杭州城市管理者率先在中国推广起了自行车租用系统。早在2008年，市公交公司就以2800辆自行车开启了公用自行车试行项目。
-First in China. City planners of Hangzhou were among the first in China to boost the bike hire system. In 2008, the Hangzhou Public Transport Corporation launched the bike-sharing plan with 2,800 bikes as a trial to cut fossil fuel consumption and to ease traffic congestion.

出示个人身份证或护照并交纳300元定金办理公交IC卡
Present an ID card (or a passport) and pay 300 for the card deposit.
Find a service spot and tap the card against the electric locker.
(At some service spots, QR code for renting service is also provided. Users can scan the code and rent bike online. 部分服务点还开通了“扫码租车”功能，乘客可通过手机扫码实现轻松租车。)
