A South Korean man who was repeatedly told to stay away from his Japanese girlfriend was arrested on Sept. 2 on suspicion of murdering her using a knife in Tokyo’s Setagaya Ward, police said.
Park Yong-jun, 30, whose residence and occupation are unknown, was found at Haneda Airport in the capital at 4:40 p.m. on Sept. 1 after he fled the scene of the attack, Tokyo’s Metropolitan Police Department said.
He has remained silent during the investigation, police said.
Bang Ji-won, 40, also South Korean, was fatally slashed in the neck outside an office building.

According to the International Criminal Division of the MPD, Park and Bang were in a relationship, and Park had traveled from South Korea to visit Bang, who lived in Japan.
She worked in the apparel industry and was shooting photos at a studio located in the Nozawa 2-Chome district of Tokyo’s Setagaya Ward on Sept. 1.
It is believed that she was attacked after she exited the building for a break.
According to the personal safety division of the MPD, Bang visited a police box in Tokyo on Aug. 29 and reported that Park had become violent when she talked about ending their relationship.
The MPD instructed Park not to approach Bang and took her to an acquaintance’s home. Park told police he would go to Osaka, so the MPD sent him to Tokyo Station.
However, the next day, Park was seen wandering around Bang’s residence in Tokyo. The MPD again instructed him not to approach Bang and urged him to return to his home country.
Police took him to Narita Airport in neighboring Chiba Prefecture.
“We took measures to ensure safety based on the victim’s wish, but we will have to figure out the developments before the murder,” an official at the personal safety division of the MPD said.
Details of the Murder

The South Korean woman in her 40s was in a Setagaya residential neighbourhood for work when she had her throat slashed.
The attacker, a man from South Korea believed to be her lover, had flown into Japan and confronted her for trying to break up with him.
