The Yujiang Sub-branch of Yanting Police in southern China's Jiangxi Province has recently reported that police at the station detained two individuals who were engaged in prostitution at their rented house. The 2 used social media to attract prospective clients and later invited them to the house to finish the business.
Police officers said they discovered a woman who was publishing posts on short-video sharing platforms with suggestive captions, which they suspected were code words used to attract clients to visit their home for services such as massage, and other "leisure" activities.
Through an investigation that was started in mid-July this year, the police determined that the woman was involved in illegal activities and set up a thorough investigative team to find out where the woman was residing.
On the evening of July 26, the police arrested Ge and Yang at their rented apartment on suspicion of engaging in prostitution activities.
Ge admitted to the police that she was using social media platforms to lure customers to their rented house to engage in prostitution activities.
Both Ge and Yang were given administrative penalties per the law.
Prostitution is illegal in China, and those who are caught engaging in prostitution may be detained for 5-15 days, and may also be fined 500-5000 yuan.
