On February 2 this year, Huang flew with Chu to Bangkok, Thailand, without telling his family, and then to the border region between Thailand and Myanmar.
However, upon arrival, Chu made an excuse that she was picking someone else up and disappeared.
“My brother said the people who came to pick him up were armed and confiscated his passport and phone. He only managed to get the phone back when he begged them, saying that he wanted to play games. He then sent a message to us and we immediately contacted the police,” the sister said.
Huang said he was then taken to another location.
There, his head was shaved, and he was forced to participate in scam operations.
If he didn’t meet targets, he said, he would be beaten with iron rods, slapped, or locked in a dark room. The manager there told him they had spent 100,000 RMB to buy him from Chu, so he had to “generate profit.”
Each day, Huang had to work 16–20 hours and was provided with a very small amount of food.
He also endured constant torture.
Over months, he lost over ten kilograms and was beaten to the point of losing his hearing. Because he failed to scam anyone, he was even required to repay the money before being released.
Finally, with assistance from the Myanmar Business Association, the family negotiated with the fraud group and paid 350,000 yuan.
Huang was lucky to return home in June.
Chu was apprehended by Chinese authorities after returning from Thailand. According to the victim’s family, the 17-year-old is now facing charges of fraud and will soon stand trial.
“Our whole family hopes the court punishes her severely. She’s only 17, but who would have thought she could do something so cruel,” the sister said.
