Guangzhou, China – In a recent enforcement action at Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, customs officers intercepted a passenger attempting to bring a significant sum of undeclared currency into the country.
The incident occurred when officers, conducting routine inspections of an arriving international flight, identified suspicious items within the luggage of a passenger who had chosen the "Nothing-to-Declare" channel.
A thorough inspection revealed multiple bundles of euro banknotes in various denominations, including €200, €50, and €20 notes. The total amount seized was 435,900 euros, equivalent to approximately 3.6 million Chinese Yuan (RMB).
Customs authorities confirmed that the individual had failed to declare the cash as required by law.
This case highlights ongoing efforts by Chinese customs to enforce currency declaration regulations. Customs officials remind the public that carrying large amounts of currency across borders is strictly regulated.
According to Chinese laws and regulations, all passengers entering or leaving China must declare to Customs if they are carrying more than 20,000 RMB in Chinese currency, or foreign currency exceeding the value of 5,000 US dollars. Travelers with amounts exceeding these limits must use the "Declare to Customs" Red Channel.
Failure to accurately declare can lead to seizure of the funds, fines, and potential further legal consequences. The public is encouraged to familiarize themselves with and adhere to these rules to avoid penalties and ensure smooth border crossings.
