谁的青春期还没长过几颗痘（acne /ˈæk·ni/）？很多人长痘痘了都喜欢用手挤，尽管大家都知道痘痘是不能挤的。
可是......
今天，双语君（微信ID：Chinadaily_Mobile）要严肃地科普一下，挤痘痘的后果是什么。

That white pus is packed with a cocktail of bacteria, dead skin cells, white blood cells, and an oily waxy material called sebum. Under the right conditions these four ingredients create the perfect storm for an infection.
白色的脓液里包含了以下混合物：细菌，死皮细胞，白细胞，以及一种油油的蜡性物质，就是皮脂。在合适的条件下，这四种物质为皮肤爆发感染提供了理想的环境。
痘痘是这样从脸上冒出来的：
首先，皮肤上的每一个毛孔（pore）里都有着一种腺体：皮脂腺（sebaceous gland）。皮脂腺是个好东西，因为它能够分泌油脂（sebum），让皮肤免于干燥。就像下面这样：
然而.....油脂要是太多了的话，就有麻烦了。比如，它会为一种叫做“丙酸杆菌（Propionibacterium acnes）”的细菌提供大量繁殖的条件。
“丙酸杆菌”的俗名就是“痤疮杆菌”，是导致痘痘的元凶。
Normally, Propionibacterium acne lives harmoniously in and on your skin. But sometimes it gets out of control. And that's when the trouble starts.
正常情况下，痤疮杆菌能够在人体皮肤上和谐生存，但有时会失去控制。这个时候，麻烦就来了。
When your sebaceous glands grow more active, like during puberty, they generate a surplus of sebum.
青春期的时候，你的皮脂腺特别活跃，他们会产生巨量的皮脂。
The excess sebum can clog your pores in which bacteria start to multiply out of control. This triggers an alarm in your body, which identifies the infestation as a threat.
超量的皮脂堵塞了毛孔，这时细菌就开始在里面疯狂繁殖。这拉响了身体里的警报，把细菌感染当成了一种威胁。
So your body dispatches white blood cells to the area to fight the abnormally large cluster of bacteria. As a result, the area becomes inflamed, causing the skin at the surface to swell and redden. Eventually, that swelling will come to a head.
于是身体释放白细胞到感染区域，来对抗异常巨大的菌群。结果，这块区域就发炎了，导致表层的皮肤变肿、发红。最后，这块肿胀区域会化脓。
于是，就变成了这种白头粉刺：
好了，痘痘终于冒出来了，你是不是已经摩拳擦掌准备挤了......
Popping the pimple opens a gateway for bacteria on your fingers, which could prolong or even worsen the already infected pore.
挤痘痘的动作相当于给你手上的细菌打开了进入毛孔的大门，让本就被感染的毛孔更加难以恢复。
这样做还会伤害皮肤：
When you pop a pimple, you are forcefully pushing the contents — bacteria, oil and debris — of the acne bump out. By doing that, you actually tear the skin. And you'll be left with an open wound.
当你挤痘痘时, 你其实是在强行把里面的东西挤压出来，包括细菌、油脂和皮屑。这样做，实际上是在撕裂皮肤。结果就是你会留下一个开放性的伤口。
而且，越是挤它，越是长得更多：
Ever notice that a second pimple often pops up in place of the first one you popped? Popping a pimple, whether you're successful or not, can spawn more spots. Once released, the bacteria spreads and leads to more acne.
你有注意过在你挤过痘痘的地方，往往都会冒出另一颗痘痘吗？不管你有没有成功地挤出来，这种做法都会让你长出更多的痘痘。一旦细菌被挤出来，就会感染，进而诱发出更多的痘痘。
一不小心就会留疤：
Scarring is also a risk for people who pop pimples often. These scars are difficult to treat once they've occurred.
对于经常挤痘痘的人来说，有很大的风险会留疤。疤痕一旦出现，就很难治疗了。
