Plastic is widely used in our daily life. It is cheap and incredibly versatile with properties that make it ideal for many applications. The most popular single-use plastics we use include straws, plastic bags, bottles, food containers and packaging.
塑料在我们的生活中无处不在。它价格便宜，有许多用途。常见的一次性塑料包括吸管、塑料袋、饮料瓶和食品包装。
However, while bringing convenience to our life, plastic also poses a threat to our environment.
虽然塑料给我们带来极大方便，它却对环境造成危害。
We produce 300 million tons of it every year, half of which is for single use. But of all the plastic created in the world, only 9 percent is recycled, which means a lot of it ends up in dump or in our natural environment.
每年，全球生产约三亿吨塑料，其中一半用于一次性塑料制品。全世界所产生的所有塑料制品中，仅有百分之九被回收利用，这意味有大量的塑料最后被送进垃圾填埋场或者进入到自然环境中。
It takes hundreds of years for plastic to break down in natural environment. In fact, 8 million tons of plastic waste is dumped into our oceans every year. By 2050, there will be more pieces of plastic than fish in our oceans.

In ocean, it ends up in the food chain and releases toxic that contaminate fish we eat.

Around the world, countries are taking measures to tackle the increasing threats from plastic pollution.

Earlier this year, Queen Elizabeth banned plastic draws and bottles from all royal estates.
今年二月，英女王伊丽莎白宣布禁止在皇室场所使用塑料吸管和饮料瓶。
As individuals, there are also things we can do to make our planet a cleaner place. Here are five things we can do to use less plastic.
作为个人，我们可以从小事做起，少用塑料，让我们的地球更干净。比如下面这五件小事：
First, carry reusable bags instead of relying on plastic ones;
1. 用可重复使用的袋子替代塑料袋。
Second, cook more at home. Cooking at home means fewer takeout containers and doggy bag.
2. 在家做饭，减少外卖餐盒和打包袋的使用。
Third, carry a reusable bottle in your bag. Every year close to 20 billion plastic bottles are discarded in the trash.
3. 自带水杯。每年全世界有近200亿个塑料瓶被扔进垃圾堆。
Fourth, purchase items secondhand. New products come with all kinds of packaging.
4. 购买二手产品。购买新的产品时总会产生各种各样的包装垃圾。
Five, buy in bulk. Consider the product-to-packaging ratio of your purchase, and select the bigger container instead of buying several smaller ones over time.
5. 买东西的时候选择整装产品，而不是散装，减少单个商品的包装使用量。
小编给的建议就是这些了，就让我们行动起来，减少一次性塑料的使用，还地球一份纯净吧。
