美国杂志《VOGUE》一直被誉为世界时尚宝典，其官方Instagram发布的照片也常常是时尚界的审美风向标。
然而，《VOGUE》3月3日在官方Ins发布的一张照片却引来巨大争议。
照片的配文中介绍了这位中国模特，称其有一种“独特的吸引力”（singular appeal）：
As a model, @qizhen_gao brings a kind of singular appeal. The Shanghai-born textile-design student at the London College of Fashion, wound up in front of the camera by happenstance. “I hadn’t thought about modeling before moving to London,” she says.
作为一名模特，@qizhen_gao 呈现了一种独特的吸引力。这位上海出生、就读于伦敦时装学院纺织品设计专业的学生，偶然获得了《VOGUE》的出镜机会。她说：“搬到伦敦前，我从没想过当模特。”

She was scouted in the campus canteen on her lunch break. One of the photographers who spotted her was assisting at the London-based Anti-Agency (which prides itself on its iconoclastic taste), and it turned out to be the right match.

“Anti is a word that applies perhaps as a negative thing in some fields, but in terms of fashion and modeling I think it challenges the norms of beauty and looks."
“‘反对’这个词在一些领域有负面的含义。但在时尚和模特界，我觉得‘反对’代表着挑战对美和外貌的常规定义。”
norm /nɔːm/ ：常态；标准
这张照片立刻引发了中国网友的关注。
大家又自动分成了两派，一方强烈抨击照片，认为《VOGUE》这是在故意诋毁、“歧视”亚洲模特。另一方则持开放包容的态度，呼吁尊重审美多元化。
US fashion magazine Vogue's post of a Chinese model on Instagram got slammed by some Chinese netizens, who claimed the magazine is denigrating the Asian model. However, others called for understanding and to respect diversity.
denigrating /'denɪgreɪt/：诋毁
据了解，这位模特名叫高其蓁，外表与众不同：
With wide-set eyes, fine eyebrows, a flat nose bridge and a distinctive mole at the top, Gao sees her physical appearance apart from most models.
高姑娘眼距极宽，细眉毛，塌鼻梁，眉间一颗痣，这副长相与大多数模特相去甚远。
一些中国网友批评《VOGUE》杂志诋毁亚洲人，甚至认为这涉嫌种族歧视（racism）。
"I feel offended by the Vogue's aesthetics," wrote a netizen, questioning why fashion brands always promote the stereotype of Asians (small eyes, pie-shaped face) while picking (generally recognized) beautiful or handsome faces of Westerners.
“我对《VOGUE》的审美感到很气愤。”一位网友写到，并质疑为何时尚品牌总是推广刻板印象中的亚洲形象（小眼睛、扁平脸），同时却挑选（大众认可的）美丽或英俊的西方面孔。
还有网友认为，这是一种“审美霸权”：
在《VOGUE》Instagram这张照片的评论区，也能看到网友持批评态度：
“我理解亚洲和西方有不同的审美标准，但是西方主流媒体总挑选‘小眼睛’‘高颧骨’的模特，绝对是刻板印象和种族歧视！他们会误导人们认为亚洲人‘就应该’长那样！他们真的需要改改了！”
一些网友认为，即使大部分亚裔并非大眼睛、高鼻子的“网红脸”，但也绝非《VOGUE》所选这位模特的长相。

一位网友评论说：
"I personally am kind of done with 'unusual' beauty. It's all gone a bit too far into disturbing territory now. Interesting? Yes. Beautiful? No. Bring back the classic beauties, please. They exist in all races."
“我真是受够这种‘不寻常’的审美了。有点跑偏到让人看着难受的程度了。有趣吗？有趣。美吗？不美。还是请回归到经典美吧！美丽是不分种族的。”

面对网友的质疑，《VOGUE》杂志的一位匿名工作人员在周一接受《环球时报》采访时表示：
"Vogue probably intended to highlight the oriental features by using the model. I personally think it is a spread on Chinese culture, as her makeup is quite in the Chinese style."
“《Vogue》推的这位模特应该是想突出东方元素。就我个人来说，这也是一种中国文化的传播吧，因为她的妆容挺中国风的。”
虽然有一大波亚洲网民谴责这张照片，也有不少网友发声表示，这张不符合主流审美的照片是一种“多元化”，并呼吁大家更为包容。
Though a number of the comments on Weibo are negative, others have stood up for Gao, declaring that she really is beautiful and that Vogue obviously doesn’t mean for her to represent all Chinese.
虽然微博上有大量负面评论，但也有不少人表示支持高其蓁，称她确实很美，Vogue的本意显然不是让她代表所有中国人。
有人认为，“每个人都是独一无二的”。时尚“多元化”是审美包容性的体现，是让大家“发现自己的美，勇于展示和接受自己”。
一位外国网友评论说：
“There is a saying ‘Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.’ What one person considers beauty may not be beautiful to another. ”
“正所谓‘各花入各眼’。一个人认为美的，另一个人可能觉得不美。”
而在这位中国模特@qizhen_gao个人instagram帐号分享的其他照片中，也有不少网友表达了对她的赞许和欣赏。
微博一位时尚博主@iDest发文指出，《VOGUE》杂志在Ins照片的配文中有明确写到：“singular appeal”。“既然用了singular这个词，那就不是东方的，也不是西方的，是属于这位女孩自己独一份的”，不该被扣上“歧视亚洲人”的帽子。
“Singular appeal” 可译为：独特的吸引力。
Singular是指：“single; unique.”（单个的；独特的）。
例如：
She always thought of herself as singular, as his only daughter.
作为他唯一的女儿，她一直认为自己是独一无二的。
Singular还可以表达：“being out of the ordinary”，即“unusual”（异常的；奇异的）。
例如：
On the way home we had a singular adventure.
我们在回家路上经历了一次奇遇。
这位时尚博主还举了几个例子，证明《VOGUE》等西方品牌曾使用过其他“打破常规”、不符合大众审美的模特。
比如，不久前《VOGUE》在instagram上还分享了模特Tilila的照片，她的脸上有很多雀斑。
“@tadxrfit属于不断壮大的马拉喀什酷小孩团体中的一员。她在阿特拉斯山脉的阿兹拉利长大，在当过辩论教师后，现在在这个城市做全职模特。”
2013年出现在Marc Jacobs秋冬秀场上的超模Lily McMenamy的“画风”也颇为与众不同。
2018年，“斗鸡眼模特Moffy”的出现，也曾引发网友和媒体对“自信”的讨论。
有网友还提到曾在去年登上维密纽约大秀的模特Winnie Harlow，她是首个登上维密大秀的患有白癜风的模特。
据《环球时报》英文版报道，微博坐拥百万粉丝的时尚博主“MissCharming大小姐”在采访中说道：“这件事说明‘美’正越来越多元化，审美不再千篇一律（ "beauty" is becoming more diverse and is no longer a one-size-fits-all aesthetic）。”
她认为：
"In the age of plastic surgery, which brought sameness beauty standards to the public, it is important to encourage everyone to stop 'body-shaming', and to accept ourselves as who we are and appreciate our beauty, the value that the fashion field is advocating."
“在整容盛行的年代，审美趋向统一，所以，鼓励大家别再外貌歧视，接受真实的自己，欣赏自己的美变得尤为重要，这正是时尚圈倡导的价值观。”
