“新中国人”不仅有吴放和于准这样的职场菁英，还有今天我们要认识这位全职妈妈——培养了学霸儿子上伊顿、牛津，创办了教育机构帮助更多准学霸孩子。
她是罗子薇，全职带娃但拒绝做“虎妈”，她认为，“新中国人”要接受优质的教育，更要有包容世界的胸怀……
有事业、有生活，怎不令人羡慕呢？
辞职带娃 匠心培育
子薇创立的铂会教育（Belmore Education）就在牛津，8到16岁的中国学生在这里接受预科教育，为走进优秀的英国公立学校做准备。
原来，把自己的儿子送进名校还不算圆满，子薇觉得，应该帮助更多的中国孩子实现梦想。
先来感受一下子薇的儿子吴比（Bill）这位学霸小鲜肉吧：
这位小哥哥可是首位考取伊顿公学国王奖学金的中国大陆学生。之后，他顺利进入牛津大学，在基布尔学院学习音乐。
这样的学霸孩子是怎么带出来的？原来，为了陪伴和教育儿子，子薇先后两次放弃工作，做起了在那个年代并不多见的全职妈妈。
I did quit my job twice in my life. The first time, when I just got the news that I was pregnant, I thought I needed to quit to be a full-time mother for my baby. And the second time when I quit my job, it was for raising him as well. My son started to read very early. Every day when he read books, he wrote quite a lot of notes to ask questions. When I got home, there were many notes waiting for me. At the very beginning I thought it was a very interesting way to communicate with my son. But after some time, I thought, it's really unfair to him. That's why I just really thought I needed to quit again.
我两次辞掉工作。第一次是我得知自己怀孕的时候，为了照顾婴儿，我想我需要辞职来做全职母亲。第二次辞职，也是为了养育孩子。我儿子很小就开始读书。他每天读书的时候，都会做很多笔记来提问，等我回家回答。一开始我觉得这样的交流方式很有趣，但后来，我觉得这对他不公平。于是我再次辞去了工作。
天天和妈妈在一起，Bill并没有被妈妈规划人生，而是随着妈妈“读万卷书，行万里路”，牛津和伊顿，只是他们万里路上的一站。
We didn't really intentionally prepare for him to go to Eton, but just from when he was born, I think because I love reading and his dad loves reading. So I think he was really hugely influenced by his parents. When Bill was 5, he started to read a lot of books and also from when he was very little, we started to go to all around the world, lots of traveling, so Bill’s really well-travelled.
我们并没有刻意培养他进入伊顿公学。我和丈夫都喜爱阅读，他从出生就深受父母影响，从五岁开始就大量阅读。同时，我们开始在世界各处旅行，带他去了很多地方。
Eton [ˈi:tn] n. 伊顿公学，英国最昂贵的私立学校。
I think if we say the secret – I think actually it's just to encourage the child to explore as much as he wants and let him be what he is, I think that is very important.
如果说培养孩子有什么秘诀的话，我想便是鼓励他尽可能多地探索世界，让他做自己，这非常重要。
是不是一个思想超前，敢作敢为的妈妈呢？
走出家庭 探索世界 热心公益
自己的儿子培养成人了，子薇开始把眼界转移到外面的世界。
One of my very good friends, he said perhaps something you would like to do is a kind of charity. Oh, yes, I would love to try, especially the charity. Actually at the moment I didn't realize it was one of Prince Charles’ Foundations——The Prince’s Youth Business International.
我一个非常要好的朋友说，或许你会想要做慈善一类的工作。我当然想试试，其实当时我还没意识到这个组织是查尔斯王子创设的——王子青年创业国际计划。
青年创业国际计划是一个大型的慈善组织，动员社会各界特别是工商界的力量为青年创业提供咨询和扶助，2000年从王子慈善集团独立出来，中国是最大的成员国之一。
刚加入时，子薇的职务是中国区的顾问，后来又成为了亚太区的顾问，这段工作经历刷新了她对慈善的认知：
The charity work or charity kind of thinking is part of British people’s lives. It is not like in China—if someone in China did some charity, people would think “Oh, they must be very rich or they be something,” but actually in the UK, I’ve found even for average people, they just find that charity work and helping people is a part of their life. That's why I would love to be involved.
慈善工作或者说慈善思想是英国人生活的一部分。不像在中国——如果有人在中国做慈善，大家就会想“噢，他一定是有钱人或者是什么大人物”。但是在英国，我发现即便是普通人，他们也会加入慈善组织去帮助别人，这是他们生活的一部分，也是我愿意加入的原因。
带着慈善给她的视野和胸怀，在帮助别人这条路上，她更不忘把自己的特长分享给别人——教育。
I set up Belmore Education, I really want to prepare elite Chinese families and their children to get into very prestigious top public schools in the UK. But beyond that, I just really want to use my own experience and prepare children as a whole person, to be independent in thinking, and to be really like an international citizen. But in the meantime, we also help their parents to get to know more about the world, about the history around this country as well.
我创立铂会教育，是想培养中国菁英家庭的孩子们，使他们能够进入英国高等私立学府学习。不过，比这更重要的，是我想用我个人的经验来培养他们健全的人格，使他们能够独立思考，成为真正的国际公民。同时，我们也帮助父母们更多地了解世界、了解历史以及了解这个国家（英国）。

public school 指英国公学，私立寄宿中学，相对应得是state school 在英国指(免费的)公立学校
为了把更多的中国菁英引入英国的上流社会，子薇加入了英国夏洛特宫廷舞会（The Queen Charlotte’s Ball）的组织机构，并引荐了多名中国淑媛。
The Queen Charlotte’s Ball was one of the very prestigious royal events in the past. And that’s a debutantes’ ball, for when a young girl is going to be 18, so it’s a big day for them to be introduced into society.
英国夏洛特宫廷舞会过去是皇室有名的社交活动，为年轻的初次进入上流社交活动的英国贵族少女举办。没错，就是大家在名著和电影中经常见到的场景。
debutante [ˈdebjutɑ:nt] n. 初进社交界的上流社会年轻女子
做为英国文化软实力代表之一，舞会传统后来向海外推广，并逐年增加海外淑媛人数，逐渐成为国际社交舞会。
When I introduced the Chinese debutantes for the first time to the chairman of The Queen Charlotte’s Ball, she was really amazed about our Chinese girls and Chinese families because actually for British people, also, they found that the Chinese culture is very long-standing, dating back so many years ago. So from our perspective, it is kind of amazing to see such prestige, but also kind of like opening a new window or opening a new door.
当我第一次将中国淑媛引荐给舞会的主席时，她为中国女孩和中国家庭的风采感到非常惊讶。英国人认识了中国悠久的历史文化，这让中国人感到很有面子的同时，也为世界打开了一扇了解中国的新窗口。
自己的孩子成才不是成才，更多的中国孩子走向世界才是世界。
敞开胸怀拥抱世界
忆往昔峥嵘岁月，子薇感慨那段境遇：
The first time when I came to the UK, it was quite a long time ago, and no one in the UK would think I was a Chinese—everyone would think I was Japanese. I was really upset about it: “Why was I not Chinese, why was I so Japanese?” Later on, I found it because they said normally in local British people’s minds, they would think the Chinese look like those from the past in Chinatowns.
（我）第一次来英国是很久以前，当时没人觉得我是中国人，大家都认为我是日本人。我真的是非常沮丧，为什么我不能是中国人？为什么觉得我像日本人？后来我才知道，通常在英国当地人的认知中，他们觉得中国人都应该像过去一样生活在中国城。
子薇认为“新中国人”应该是开放且包容的世界公民，而且像她一样的“新中国人”会越来越多。
然而，像子薇一样的“新中国人”不仅不局限在中国城，还帮助更多中国人走向英国更高的阶层。
I think the New Chinese should have very good education, and very good thinking about the world. We cannot be narrow-minded any more as in the past, and we should be very open-minded. For the New Chinese, we are Chinese, but we are also global citizens—that’s what I think perhaps can be a part of what the New Chinese needs to be.
我想“新中国人” 必须是受过优质教育的，善于思考这个世界。我们不能像过去那样局限自己的思维，而是要打开。对于“ 新中国人”来说，我们是中国人，更是世界公民，这是我所认为的“新中国人”必备素质的一部分。
