Though smiling in this picture, I remember holding back tears as the camera snapped and I embraced my dear Chinese friend for the last time. 

尽管这张照片中的我们笑着，我仍然记得在最后一次拥抱我的中国朋友时，我在镜头前面忍住了泪水。

In my month spent in China teaching ESL last summer, I formed a beautiful friendship with Mia, one of the hardworking and dedicated students at Langfang Normal University. Though our paths only crossed for a season, I know that she will be a lifelong friend. Through listening to our favorite music together while sharing earbuds and personal stories on our bus ride to and from the Great Wall of China, what we were really sharing was our lives. 

去年夏天，我在中国教授ESL语言课程期间，和米雅结下了深厚的友谊，来自廊坊师范大学的她是我的学生之一，勤奋而努力。尽管我们只在一起度过了一季，但我知道她将是我一生的朋友。我们在去长城的路上一起听喜欢的音乐，分享各自的故事与生活。

In every conversation that I had with Mia, there was a pure and genuine curiosity felt as we both attempted to share our cultures, and even more so our hearts. We bonded over our interest in each other's lives, our day-to-day experiences, our hopes and our dreams. She taught me that friendship transcends and even celebrates differences. My time in China with Mia changed me.

在和米雅的交谈中，我感受到了彼此之间想要分享自己文化的单纯与渴望。我们分享日常生活、经历、希望、梦想、兴趣，感情日渐深厚。她让我知道友谊可以跨越差异。在中国和米雅一起度过的日子改变了我。

The Governance of China was the book that Haining gave me as a gift when we first met. I am very interested in learning more about China. It has always been my passion. 

《治国理政》是海宁（音译）第一次见面时送给我的书。我一直对关于中国的知识很感兴趣，这也是我的激情所在。

I learned so much about the values and history of China and the Chinese people. I often ask Haining about the content that I don't understand in the book. My favorite part of the book is the articles about the Chinese dream, which Haining describes as the people's dream. Personally speaking, my Chinese dream is to explore this country and to learn more about its history, culture, politics and people.

我学到了很多关于中国和中国人民的价值观和历史。我经常问海宁书中我不懂的内容。这本书中我最喜欢的部分是关于中国梦的文章，海宁把这些文章描述为人民的梦想。就我个人而言，我的中国梦是探索这个国家，更多地了解这个国家的历史、文化、政治和人民。

This is a picture taken in front of our Shangri-La Hotel before heading to Capital Stadium. We're wearing "I love Yao" t-shirts. Thousands of fans chanted Yao Ming's name during the entire game against the Sacramento Kings. It was a pure adrenaline rush! Yao Ming will forever be my most favorite player in the NBA.

Jinghao and I met through an exchange program at Penn State University. Everything about Jinghao—his heart, his mind, his soul—introduced me to my love for China. 

我和景浩（音译）在宾州州立大学的一个交换项目中相识。他的心灵、他的思想、他的灵魂让我渐渐爱上了中国。

Jinghao was one of those people that touches your heart, and you know that you will never be the same after the encounter, just like the country he came from. Through him, I started to learn the Chinese language and everything I could about his home, and he in turn learned about the United States. We became inseparable, forming a bond that would never break.

景浩是那种能够触动你内心的人，遇到他之后，你的人生从此不同，就如同与他祖国的相遇一般。通过他，我开始学习中文以及关于他家乡的一切。同时，他也在学习有关美国的知识。我们变成了形影不离的好朋友，建立了永远都不会断的友谊纽带。
