Lightning Fighters, a TV drama freshly put on screen telling stories about the Eighth Route Army during the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression (1931-45), aroused fierce disputes online.

Some audiences blame it for containing too many details that are contrary to historical truth. For example, the military officers of the army in the drama had hair gel that made them look handsome. They worked in luxurious villas, while some officers even had flippant expression to females at the side of the street.
These are never the truth in history. The truth is that the Eighth Route Army had barely enough supply and their fighting conditions were rather bad. They had so strict military disciplines that each officer must act politely to any civil resident.
On social networks, some defend the drama by saying that they are at least good in being patriotic.
在社交网络上,一些人为该剧说话,认为它爱国的思想还是好的。
They might mean to be so, but behind that is the essence of an idol drama. They mean to let the world see a pre-designed image of their stars and idols and patriotism is being used by them to serve that purpose.
该剧的初衷或许如此,但在这背后的核心却是一部偶像剧。他们想让观众看到的是预设的明星和偶像的形象,而爱国只是服务于这一目的的工具。
The blames over Lightning Fighters is nothing about age or idol. It is about historical truths.
《雷霆战将》错不在剧中人的年龄,亦或是偶像,而是关乎于历史事实。
