A number of recommendation for future public holidays proposed during the two sessions have been recently trending across China’s social media.
Popular proposals, such as providing paid leave for both spouses, offering men no less than 20 days of paternity leave and increasing paid leave for those who are the only child in their immediate family to care for elderly parents, have all emphasized the protection of family and childcare rights, observers suggested.

While many net users supported the proposal of longer paid leave for one child families to attend to their parents, some are concerned about the burden companies will have to bear, which in turn will make it harder for candidates with no siblings to land a job.
