在餐馆看到认识的人，为了避免正面接触扭头就跑。餐馆好不好吃都不重要了，光想到可能会发生的寒暄场面就已经尴尬到脚趾扣地了。
漫威演员奥妹（Elizabeth Chase Olsen）在吉米秀（Jimmy Kimmel Live）讲述了类似的经历。
奥妹因在漫威电影《复仇者联盟系列》中扮演绯红女巫角色深入人心。后来主演的《旺达与幻视》（Wanda Vision）剧集也收获一致好评。

然而见惯了大场面的演员也逃不过“社恐”。节目中，她提起有一次在外吃饭时遇到主持人吉米·坎摩尔（Jimmy Kimmel）后，仓皇逃跑的经历：
And you know you don’t get a lot of face time. And I feel like we don’t know each other that well. ... And I felt really weird sitting through a meal. Not knowing if I should say Hi to you or not. And so I just went to a different restaurant.
你知道我们没见过几次面，所以我觉得咱们不算很熟的那种。……不知道该不该打招呼，所以我就去了另一家餐馆。
And I have really bad social anxiety. Like here, and outside of work. Seeing work people in their private life. And I felt really weird sitting through a meal.
其实我有很严重的社交恐惧。比如现在，或者在非工作时间。如果在私人生活中遇到在工作中认识的人，我觉得坐在一起吃饭很奇怪。
我们平时所说的“社恐”用英语可以说“social anxiety disorder”、“social phobia”，也就是对社交互动表现出忧虑和紧张。这与病理上的社交恐惧症（anthropophobia）是大相径庭的。
社交网站Reddit上，众网友分享了日常生活中遇到的“令人窒息”的社交场面：

这种“社交焦虑”是普遍存在的，喜欢独处，或是在面对特定场合紧张害羞都无需矫枉过正。
