China is set to build monitoring and defense systems protecting the planet from the dangers of near-Earth asteroids (NEAs).
我国将着手组建近地小行星监测和防御系统,以应对近地小行星撞击的威胁。
Wu Yanhua, deputy director of the China National Space Administration (CNSA), told China's CCTV News recently that China will start to build an Earth-based and space-based NEA monitoring and warning system, in order to ensure the safe, stable and orderly operation of spacecraft.
国家航天局副局长吴艳华近日在接受央视采访时表示,我国要开始完善建立地基天基对小行星的监测预警系统,以确保太空中的航天器安全稳定有序运行。
吴艳华说,既要编目(categorize the risks posed by NEAs),而且关键是要分析哪一些是重危型的,要进行判断。第二就是要研究探索相关的技术(explore techniques)和工程,有没有可能解除这些威胁(neutralize those risks),我们要进行相关的技术研究和攻关。
Furthermore, China plans to set up an NEA defense system, map out an NEA defense blueprint and develop virtual software to simulate NEA-derived risk scenarios.
同时,我国还将着手组建近地小行星防御系统,组织编制近地小行星防御发展规划,开发近地小天体防御仿真推演软件并组织开展基本流程推演。
The country hopes to approach an asteroid to observe it closely before impacting it to alter its orbit in 2025 or 2026, a rehearsal to prevent NEAs from endangering our planet in the future, according to Wu.
吴艳华说,争取在2025年、2026年实施一次对某一颗有威胁的小行星,既进行抵近观测,又实施就近撞击,就改变它轨道进行技术实验,这样为未来人类真正应对小行星地外天体对地球家园的威胁,作出新的贡献。

在记者会上,汪文斌表示,中方始终本着为全人类谋福利的精神和平利用外空。中方组建近地小天体防御系统,旨在应对近地小天体撞击这一全人类面临的共同风险。中方将继续通过联合国和平利用外空委员会等相关多边机制,同各国开展交流合作,为保护地球和人类安全贡献力量。
China is committed to the peaceful use of outer space in the spirit of promoting the wellbeing of all humanity. The small near-Earth objects defense system that China will develop is aimed at addressing the impact of small near-Earth objects, a common risk faced by mankind. China will continue to carry out exchanges and cooperation with countries through the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space and other relevant multilateral mechanisms to contribute our strength to protecting the safety of Earth and all humanity.
